Release, Renewal, Regrowth

Meditation Three

When: Friday afternoon, before the burning ceremonyLength: ~6 minVoice: Jared or Annette

The turn from digging to letting go — release what you carried, and trust the regrowth you can't yet see.

Recording note  This is the script for the audio we’ll record — read aloud, slowly, then slower again. [pause] is 3–5 seconds, [long pause] 10–20 seconds, [silence] 45–60 seconds. A single soft instrumental bed, or none.

Find the ground. Sit, or lie back on the grass if the day allows. [pause] Let the afternoon hold you — you don't have to hold anything right now. [pause] Three slow breaths. In through the nose… [pause] and out, like you're letting go of a rope you've gripped too long. [long pause]

You've done the hard digging this week. You named the weeds on Wednesday. You picked up the rocks and wrote what was on them. You went down to the roots, and you wrote letters you may have needed to write for thirty years. [pause] Today is different. Today is not for digging. Today is for release. [long pause]

Go to your garden one more time. [pause] Kneel at the edge. And this time, notice your hands are empty. [pause] All week you've been carrying something — a rock, a page, a name. Feel how it feels to kneel here with nothing in your hands. [long pause]

There are three things a garden does when it's finally tended, and your body is about to do all three.

The first is release. [pause] The weed, once pulled, is not argued with. It is not kept in a drawer. It's carried to the edge and let go. Tonight, at sundown, you'll carry yours to the fire — but the releasing has already begun, right now, in the loosening of your hands. [pause] Say it under your breath if you want to: I release you. [long pause]

The second is renewal. [pause] Look at the soil where the rock used to be. Dark, and open, and soft. Air is reaching it for the first time in years. [pause] That is not damage. That is renewal. The ground you cleared is not empty — it is ready. [long pause]

The third is regrowth. [pause] You won't see it today, and that is the point. Under the soil, in the dark, in the quiet, roots are already reaching toward the room you made. [pause] Regrowth does not happen while you watch it. It happens while you rest. [long pause]

— silence —

So here is the whole of it. [pause] Release what you carried. Trust the renewal you can't yet see. And let the regrowth happen on its own time, not yours. [pause] You've done your part. The garden will do the rest. [long pause]

Come back gently. [pause] The ground under you. The desert afternoon. The people around you who did the same hard work. [pause] When you're ready, open your eyes. [pause] Tonight, we rest. Bring what's left to the fire.
