The Swimming Hole — “Still Water”
Trail 4
The walk to the swimming hole: clarity comes by settling, not by effort.
Recording note This is the script for the audio we’ll record — read aloud, slowly, then slower again. [pause] is 3–5 seconds, [long pause] 10–20 seconds, [silence] 45–60 seconds. A single soft instrumental bed, or none.
There's a reason every tradition on earth eventually walks its people to the water. [pause] Find a spot on the bank. Sit down. You're not walking anywhere else for a few minutes. [pause] Look at the surface. If the wind is up, watch the pattern. If it's still, look at the reflection — the trees upside down, the sky at your feet. [pause]
Here's what still water knows: it doesn't become clear by working harder. It becomes clear by settling. Every desert pool turns murky when it's stirred and clears when it's left alone — and not one of them has ever achieved clarity through effort. [pause] You were built the same way. Today — this whole day — is a settling day. Nothing is asked of you. Nothing is graded. The work you did this week is sinking in right now, the way rain sinks into soil, and it does that on its own schedule, not yours. [pause]
No journal question on this one. That's not an oversight. Just sit by the water until you feel one full breath go all the way to the bottom. [pause] Then stay a little longer.
