The Ridgeline — “What Remains”
Trail 3
The roots-and-history walk — pairs with the deep-work day.
Recording note This is the script for the audio we’ll record — read aloud, slowly, then slower again. [pause] is 3–5 seconds, [long pause] 10–20 seconds, [silence] 45–60 seconds. A single soft instrumental bed, or none.
You're walking toward the ruins of a house a man named Godfrey Santerra built for a woman he loved, who died before it was finished. He kept building anyway. War came through it, fever came through it, fortune left it — and the walls are still standing, and you're about to put your hand on them. [pause] Go ahead. Touch the brick. [pause]
Every life has ruins — the marriage, the company, the version of you that didn't survive some year you barely talk about. We spend so much energy pretending the ruins aren't there. But look at this place: they planted a garden around the ruins. They light it up at night. The broken thing became the most beautiful part of the property. [pause]
At the ruins, journal question one: What ruin in my life have I been hiding that might actually be a foundation? [pause] Then take the ridge trail up — get your heart rate up, that's on purpose — and at the top, question two: From up here, with the whole property below — what does my life look like from a distance? What's actually large? What's actually small? [pause] Take your time coming down. Downhill is when the answers usually come.
